I somehow managed to break my mastodon instance, so I took the downtime as an opportunity to upgrade my server. I'm back now, with plenty of room to grow.

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend you enable Two-factor auth on your Mastodon accounts. This option is available in your settings panel.
A password alone isn't very secure, but 2FA means even if a hacker got your password, they still wouldn't be able to get into your account. It's good practice to use 2FA wherever you can.
I use Authy on mine, which is available on both iOS and Android, and also has a Chrome extension. There are plenty of other options, though.
I'm going to be starting up at my local gym next week. I'm not overweight or anything, but I'd like to stay a healthy weight, and build and keep my fitness. Plus, my local gym has a sauna.
I've been posting way too much meta-commentary today. Must think of other things to say...
Meta-commentary on Twitter and switching over to Mastodon Show more
If you, or any Twitter friends of yours find Mastodon's interface confusing, you should probably know about Halcyon, a Mastodon client that looks identical to Twitter.
There's a copy of it being hosted at https://halcyon.cybre.space but I may host my own copy of this on my own server at some point.
I'm vaguely tempted to upgrade my server now so I don't have to do it later in a panic while everything is on fire. But, where's the fun in that?
Mastodon's Direct Message UI/UX needs some work, and aren't secure since they're stored in plaintext anyway. For the time being, I may just pretend DMs aren't a thing. It's not like there's a shortage of private messaging platforms, and I'm pretty much on most of them.
I'd open my Mastodon instance up to registrations to help share the bandwidth and storage pressure, but I can't imagine anyone other than myself wanting to be @earfolds.com - maybe I should spin up another server at some point.
For the time being, I'm going to move my name into my profile metadata and just go by "Earfolds" here, since usernames don't stand out that well compared to display names. It probably looks a little better in the timeline this way.
I want to install more fediverse-y software on my server, like Funkwale or Pixelfed or PeerTube or something, but I can't think of anything I'd use them for.
I kinda want a coffee, but I don't want one badly enough to actually get up and make one myself. Living alone might have its perks, but it has very real downsides.
I decided to take a break from streaming on Twitch today, I mean it'd be pretty awkward streaming with a laptop with a broken screen anyway, but I kinda want to get back into Donkey Kong 64 NLE. Either that, or do an Ocarina of Time Randomiser race with someone. Maybe next week, maybe i'll take another week off. It's nice being able to just do nothing on a Friday evening.
This is my hundredth post on mastodon I better make it a good one
The monitor on my laptop broke. I guess it's a desktop now!
I was bored so I set up an XMPP server I'm not going to use.
Gee, I can't wait for more of my friends and acquaintances to join the fediverse so I can not say anything to them like I don't on Twitter.
I had this sketch made to perfectly encapsulate my inner struggle. On the left is Earfolds, a wolf. On the right is Twelve, a weasel. The weasel is sassin' back. The wolf is givin' a time.
Thanks to UselessDemonicMutt for the art.
I kinda want to turn meme.run into a speedrunner-community mastodon instance, but I don't want to admin two servers, and I don't want to migrate from earfolds.com. I guess I'll just wait for someone else to make one.
I think I've just enabled both email notifications and full-text search on my mastodon server. Now to figure out other things I can do with my instance.
